Paul Damon paints landscapes in oil. He is a self-taught
artist who discovered painting while teaching landscape architectural
drafting and design at the University of Minnesota. Damon has exhibited
in many venues and galleries across the Twin Cities metro area.
"Many of the paintings in this year's art sale this year reflect my trip to the Minnesota Driftless Area. I also made an effort to paint more of the urban scenes in the Twin Cities as well as the towns we traveled through. I am particularly interested in the 19th Century infrastructure that still remains in many midwestern towns. I have switched from canvas to painting on wood panels. These are premade hardboard panels with a maple cradle (bracing) on the back. They are completely acid-free and archival since they don't flex with humidity like a canvas does. They can be hung without a frame or they can be easily placed in a frame if desired.
The garden this year has grown much taller than usual with all the rain. We have a bumper crop of Red Admiral butterflies as well as our usual assortment of others like the Swallowtails and Monarchs. Visitors this year will see many species of birds and bees here to feed on the berries and seeds, though they may have to fight their way through the 7-foot milkweeds. |
